For years I struggled with chronic pain from migraines, concussions and car accidents. Western medicine typically only treated the symptoms and I needed to find additional support. I have had many healing experiences through natural, holistic healing modalities. By creating space in my life to be still, I have come to understand that The Divine Creator also plays a role in healing our body, mind and spirit. This book came naturally out of our classroom learning. My class starts every week with "Mindful Monday" where I teach a mindfulness or breathing strategy to help build the students' capacity for attention and self-regulation. To highlight our learning during a school assembly, I made up a simple rhythmic poem about mindful breathing. My daughter and I (with the help of a green screen in some cases) took pictures of the students acting out the scenarios in the text and we showed it on powerpoint. We were also learning about trees, paper and how books are made so I decided that we should publish our book as a keepsake of our year together. What started as a small class project has blossomed into a practical tool used by teachers, behaviour specialists, psychologists, yoga instructors, parents and grandparents to help children learn the benefits and ease of mindful breathing.
